Original Character Personality Guide, or How to take the fun out of everything.

Here's something I put together while trying to figure out my personal path girl. It takes a lot more effort than just doing a character bio, but in the process you might learn things about your character that you didn't know before. Either way, you're going to end up with a LOT of words.

The idea is simple... in Part I, you list down how what kind of experiences your character had with various influential elements (i.e. how much her parents sucked, how much she was picked on at school, how she lost her virginity, etc) and how they've impacted the character so far. In Part II, you list down the ways the aforementioned past experiences will affect the character's attitudes and decisions over the course of the story as they would appear, like how their views on school would be influenced by their family, their faith, and so on.

The idea is to have a clear idea what your character feels about different things and why, as opposed to say, "she doesn't like boys because she's a bitch, the end." It's to be something to fall back on if you're not sure how a given character would react in a given situation. The fewer out-of-character moments, the better.

Maybe someone here will find it useful, maybe not. If you want to give it a shot, have at it and feel free to change the format as you see fit. You don't HAVE to have just past experiences in part I and current and future decisions in part II. You don't HAVE to fill out every single space in part II. The more clarity you derive from writing about your character's mentality, the better.

I'm posting this on the public side for the benefit of writers out there in general, regardless of what they'd use it for.
